使い方のコツ

"Reserve" is pronounced /rɪˈzɜːrv/ (ri-ZURV), with stress on the second syllable. Common collocations are "reserve a table/room/seat/ticket" for booking something ahead. Note that the noun form is usually "reservation" (e.g. "I made a reservation"), while "reserve" itself stays mainly a verb, or refers to a stock kept aside ("in reserve"). In casual speech, "book" often replaces "reserve" for restaurants or hotels ("book a table"), but "reserve" sounds a bit more formal. The adjective "reserved" is different again—it describes someone quiet or shy who doesn't show feelings easily.
