意味
「refuse」は、何かを断る・拒否する・受け入れないという意味の動詞です。発音が変わって名詞として使われる場合は、「ゴミ・廃棄物」というまったく別の意味になります。
英語での意味: To refuse means to say no to an offer, request, or instruction, or to choose not to accept something. As a noun with a different pronunciation (REF-use), "refuse" also means waste or garbage.

Refuse is almost always followed by "to + verb" (e.g., refuse to answer), not an -ing form — so "refuse answering" is incorrect. It's also useful to compare refuse with similar words: "decline" sounds more polite and formal (often used for invitations or offers), "reject" is stronger and more direct (often used for proposals, applications, or ideas), while "refuse" sits in between and is common in everyday conversation. Also note that "refuse" as a verb (re-FUSE) has a different pronunciation from "refuse" as a noun meaning trash (REF-use).
