意味

evidence(発音: /ˈev.ɪ.dəns/、「エ」にアクセント、エビデンス)は、何かが本当であることや起こったことを示す情報・事実・物のことです。科学、法律、日常の議論でよく使われます。

英語での意味: Evidence /ˈev.ɪ.dəns/ is information, facts, or objects that show something is true or that help prove something happened. The stress is on the first syllable: EV-i-dence. It is often used in science, law, and everyday arguments.

例文

  • The police found new evidence at the scene.

    警察は現場で新しい証拠を見つけました。

  • There is no evidence that this medicine works.

    この薬が効くという証拠はありません。

  • She based her opinion on scientific evidence.

使い方のコツ

Evidence is usually uncountable, so avoid "an evidence" or "evidences." Say "some evidence" or "a piece of evidence" instead. Learn it in common phrases: "there is evidence that...", "lack of evidence", "insufficient evidence", and "strong/solid evidence" (vs. weak evidence). In academic or legal writing, "evidence suggests that..." is a common way to introduce a claim politely.
