使い方のコツ
Pronunciation: /ˈkæʒ.u.əl/ (stress on the first syllable, like "KA-zhoo-ul"). The middle "su" sounds like "zh" (as in "measure" or "usual"), not like "s" or "z". Spelling note: only one "s" and one "l" — people often mistakenly write "casuall" or "casuel". Casual is the opposite of "formal," and the two words are often used side by side to describe clothes, events, or tone (e.g., "Is this a casual or formal party?"). Common word partners: casual wear, casual Friday, casual conversation, casual atmosphere, casual relationship. Note for Japanese learners: カジュアル in Japanese is mostly about clothing, but in English "casual" also describes attitudes, conversations, and relationships — a "casual relationship," for example, means dating without a serious commitment. Also, "casual" does NOT mean "normal" or "usual"; don't confuse it with those words just because they sound similar.
